Yes, you read that right. Paleo Chocolate Frosted Donuts. These gluten and dairy free chocolate frosted donuts will be a crowd pleaser at any event. Who doesn’t love a good donut, but on a special diet, safe donuts can be hard to find.
Paleo Chocolate Frosted Donuts
These donuts are the real deal! Light, chocolatey and delicious. The only non-paleo part of these donuts is the sprinkles. Some great organic, artificial color free sprinkle brands include Wilton Naturally Flavored Assorted Sprinkless & Jimmies and India Tree All Natural.
I baked them in this nonstick donut pan but others love silicone baking molds. The key is greasing the pans generously so the donuts slide right out.

Instructions
Chocolate Donuts
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the dry ingredients (almond flour, coconut flour, baking soda, sea salt, ground cinnamon)
- Separate the eggs and whisk the egg whites until they are foamy
- In a separate bowl, mix the egg yolks, maple syrup, vanilla extract and apple cider vinegar
- In a double boiler (or small pot of water with a bowl on top), melt the chocolate chips and coconut oil
- While the chocolate is melting, combine the wet and dry ingredients minus the egg whites. Once the chocolate has melted, add it to the mixture and mix until well combined. Fold in the egg whites.
- Grease the donut pan generously with coconut oil and pipe the batter evenly into the 6 donut molds. An easy way to do this is to put the batter in a large plastic bag and slice an end
- Bake about 15 minutes or until the toothpick comes out clean. Let the donuts cool in the mold for 5 minutes before placing them onto a cooling rack
Chocolate Glaze
- While the donuts are cooling, melt the chocolate chips with coconut oil in a double broiler
- Once the donuts have cooled, dip them into the chocolate. If you want to fully cover the donuts in chocolate, double the glaze recipe
- Leave as is or top with sprinkles
